Here's another "sketch card'. This time it's Marion Ravenwood (best Indy girl EVER) and I captured it at a couple of stages. First the rough pencils, really just there to get features in there correct general spots. Next comes the clear gesso, and this step is really crucial for the "look" of these. A lot of the line art is really a result of the gesso making peeks and valleys for the pencil and paint. Then a more refined pencil drawing using colored pencils. Then I use airbrush to glaze color, rework the pencil, and add some white airbrush, and splatter where needed. ta da.
